A transparent plastic box (slightly damaged – a few little parts missing) containing 25 loose plates on heavy paper, printed on one side + a letter in English from GERZ to his editor Howeg reproduced on transparent material & a card illustrated with a photo, to indicate to the publisher Howeg, to be interested in his next publications. 25 plates, partly photographic, partly graphic or typographically designed. Each plate titled in English and always using the word “piece”: “Creation Piece”, “Here Piece”, “Their Piece” etc. In the reproduced letter GERZ wrote “I have been fascinated for some time by the tratments that the ancient Egyptians applied to their dead. (...) In reducing language to its minimum I have tried to escape from the fantastic and hopeless mechanism which is writing. I like to think that the following pages are pieces of a whole and that this whole is life... (...) So all I expose to you is once again but a look into the alienating mechanisms of writing. Since it was never my intention to do this sort of work which will always give me nausea I don not promise that this mummy keep its resemblance for a thousand years. Withdrawing from pretention I call the following pieces BURIALS.”. Early artist publication.
